Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Class films

Multimodal, digital storytelling, cineliteracy, future focused learning call it what you will, making films in class is a brilliant way to express our creativity, engage in collaborative projects, and get hands on with innovative technology.

Music

Music is an integral part of the life of Marrickville Public School. A dedicated team of staff work together to promote a positive education in music.

All students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of co-curricular music ensembles. These include concert band, training band, senior recorder, senior choir, junior choir, beginner recorder and drumming group.

On top of this, students participate in weekly music lessons run by a music specialist. These sequential lessons develop skills in singing, playing recorder and percussive instruments, movement to music and composition.

Throughout their time at Marrickville Public School, students have opportunity to perform at the Opera House with the Expanding Horizons Choir and the Festival of Instrumental Music. Also, students can take part in performances at local festivals and events, including Marrickville Festival.

Marrickville Public School also has an annual school musical which is a lot of fun! It occurs in term 3 every year and all staff and students are involved! Senior students are the main cast and crew and all classes perform an item. It has come to be an integral part of the school calendar and is very well loved by the local community!
